Why do I get Activation Error?

This error occurs after the GigSky account is created, the eSIM is purchased and downloaded when the customer tries to use the downloaded eSIM.

The cause of this error is the phone is not fully unlocked, the recommendation from Apple is to complete the following tasks to reset your phone.

  • Backup & Restore from iCloud (a Wifi connection is required)
    • Go to Settings
    • Tap "Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store"  below your name at the top of the screen
    • Tap iCloud
    • Scroll down to iCloud Backup
    • Turn on iCloud Backup
    • Tap Backup Now
    • When the backup is complete, go to Settings -> General -> Reset and select Erase all Contents and Settings
    • Select Erase Now
    • Enter your Unlock Code
    • Select Erase iPhone
    • Select Erase All & Keep Cellular Plans
    • Enter your Apple ID Password
    • Select Erase 
    • This will reset your phone
    • Select Set Up Manually when doing the restore
    • Connect to a WiFi network
    • Follow the instructions
    • Select Restore from iCould Backup 
    • Sign into your iCloud account
    • Restore from the latest backup and follow the instructions to set up your phone
    • When the restore is complete, you should be able to use your data plan on your eSIM
    • It may take a little while to restore all your downloaded apps
  • Backup & Restore using iTunes on MacBook/Windows PC (for a Windows PC you need to download the iTunes App)
    • Connect your phone to your MacBook via the USB cable
    • Open iTunes
    • On the top left, there will show an icon looking like a phone, click on the icon.  This will open up a screen that allow you to do a backup to your computer
    • Select Backup To This Computer
    • Select Backup Now
    • When the backup is complete, go to Settings -> General -> Reset and select Erase all Contents and Settings
    • Select Erase Now
    • Enter your Unlock Code
    • Select Erase iPhone
    • Select Erase All & Keep Cellular Plans
    • Enter your Apple ID Password
    • Select Erase 
    • This will reset your phone
    • Leave your phone connected to your MacBook
    • Select Restore from iTunes Backup
    • Go to you MacBook and go into iTunes
    • Select Restore from this Backup (the latest backup should be used)
    • Select Continue, the restore has started
    • When Restore Has Completed, select Continue and sign into you iCloud account
    • When the restore is complete, you should be able to use your data plan on your eSIM
    • It may take a little while to restore all your downloaded apps
