How do I make sure that I'm not using my home phone number or data plan when traveling?

The best way to make sure that you're not roaming on your domestic service when traveling is to turn off or remove your domestic carrier's SIM/eSIM. However, you should not do this if you need to receive calls or SMS text messages while you are traveling. Typically, your primary carrier will not charge you for calls and texts received while traveling, but you should check with them before traveling to confirm this.
