Apple iPhones from the XS onwards have dual SIM capability, either dual eSIM, one eSIM and one nano-SIM card, or two nano-SIM cards (eSIM on iPhone is not offered in China mainland). An eSIM is a digital SIM that allows you to use a cellular plan from your carrier without having to use a physical nano-SIM.
What you need
- A carrier-unlocked iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or later, with iOS 12.1 or later. We recommend installing the latest version of iOS.
- The GigSky app V5.0 or later.
What you DON'T need
- A QR code.
- An activation code.
- Roaming to be turned On.
Your first Purchase
- Go to the App Store and download the GigSky app.
- Select Allow to let the GigSky app use your location services.
- Select Allow to let the GigSky app send notifications (this is required to send you information when your data plan is running low).
- Use the app to purchase a cellular plan.
- Open the app.
- Search the country for which you would like to purchase a data plan.
- Select a data plan from the ones displayed.
- If you are not already a GigSky customer, you will need to create an account. If you already have an account, tap "Log In" at the bottom of the screen.
- Add a payment method.
- Tap Buy Plan to purchase the data plan.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to customize the plan label on the phone.
- Tap Copy Label And Proceed.
- Tap Continue.
- Tap Continue.
- Tap Add Cellular Plan.
- Tap Secondary.
- Scroll down to the Custom Label, paste the value copied earlier, and tap Done.
- Tap Continue.
- The Default Line screen is displayed. Tap Primary to select your home carrier's line and tap Continue.
- The Add to iMessage, FaceTime, Apple ID screen is displayed. Tap Primary to select your home carrier's line and tap Continue.
- The Cellular Data screen is displayed. If you do not wish to use the GigSky data plan immediately, select your Primary line for Cellular Data. If you do want to start using your GigSky data plan, select the GigSky Plan, rather than the Primary plan (which is your home carrier)*. Do NOT turn on Allow Cellular Data Switching. This could mean that the phone switches to use your home carrier's data plan when traveling, resulting in you incurring roaming charges. Tap Continue.
-
Your eSIM will be downloaded and your data plan will be displayed. This can take a couple of minutes, so be patient.
-
When the plan is displayed, go to Settings > Cellular and verify that the GigSky Plan appears next to Cellular Data at the top of the page. You should also see the GigSky Plan in the SIMs list further down the screen, with "On" next to it. To turn on the GigSky data plan later, go to Settings > Cellular and turn on the GigSky Plan in the SIMs section, and select the GigSky Plan for Cellular Data, at the top of the screen.
