This article describes how to get started with GigSky on any carrier-unlocked Apple iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular model, including iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 or later.
Install the GigSky SIM into your iPad.
To use the GigSky mobile data service in your iPad, you must install a GigSky SIM card.
Make sure that the iPad is turned off.
Open the SIM tray. Insert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the SIM tray, then press firmly and push the tool straight in until the tray pops out. Pull out the SIM tray to install the GigSky SIM card. If there’s already a SIM card in the tray, remove it first before installing the GigSky SIM card.
Turn on the iPad.
Make the correct Cellular Data settings to enable GigSky’s mobile data service.
For the following options, go to Settings > Cellular Data.
- Turn Cellular Data on.
- Turn Data Roaming on.
Note that, at this time, Personal Hotspot is only available to you when you use GigSky’s mobile data service with Apple SIM. If you have Apple SIM, please refer to the article here.
Install GigSky’s Configuration Profile. Connect to a Wi-Fi network and open Safari.
- Go to gigsky.mobileconfig
- Tap Install.
- Tap Install Now.
- Tap Done.
Configure cellular data usage for apps.
To help prevent excessive cellular data usage, set whether cellular data is used for apps and services. Go to Settings > Cellular, then turn cellular data on or off for any app that can use cellular data. If a setting is off, iPad uses only Wi-Fi for that service. The iTunes setting includes both iTunes Match and automatic downloads from the iTunes Store and the App Store.
Your iPad is now configured to use GigSky Mobile Data.
Next, download the GigSky app from the iTunes App Store, and use it to create an account, and select and buy a data plan.
The first time you arrive in a country, the SIM card, local network, and GigSky servers have to update each other before you can use GigSky Mobile Data. Typically, this takes about 5 minutes. In some exceptional cases, it can take up to 15 minutes.
