Setting the APN on an Apple iOS device

In order to use GigSky data, your device needs to use an Access Point Name (APN) of "gigsky" (without the quotation marks). Depending on your domestic carrier, the menu option to set the APN may not be visible (Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Network). To get around this, you can download and install a configuration file. NOTE: Only install this file if your GigSky SIM card is installed in this device. If you have a SIM card from a different service provider installed in this device, downloading and installing the configuration file will stop your data connection from working.

  1. Turn off the iPhone
  2. Swap out your carrier SIM card for your GigSky SIM card
  3. Turn on the iPhone
  4. Connect to a Wi-Fi network
  5. Open the GigSky app, and log in to your GigSky account
  6. Install the iOS APN configuration file
    1. Go to the GigSky App Menu > Support > Search “Setting the APN”
    2. In the article “Setting the APN on an Apple iOS device” (this article), tap the gigsky.mobileconfig link. NOTE: This link will only work from within the GigSky app on an iOS device.
    3. Tap Install, enter Passcode (if prompted), and tap Install
  7. Turn on Data Roaming: Settings > Cellular (Mobile) Data > Data Roaming
  8. Buy and use data

When you replace your carrier SIM card into your iPhone:

  1. Turn off the iPhone
  2. Replace your carrier SIM card
  3. Turn on the iPhone
  4. Turn off Data Roaming: Settings > Cellular (Mobile) Data > Data Roaming
  5. Delete the iOS APN configuration file
    1. Go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management
    2. Select the GigSky profile
    3. Tap Delete Profile, enter Passcode (if prompted), and tap Delete
  6. Toggle Airplane mode: Settings > Airplane Mode

NOTE: More information on setting the Cellular (Mobile) Data APN on an iOS device can be found on the Apple Support site: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201699
