Can I install my eSIM before my trip?
You can prepare ahead, but installing your eSIM may start your plan if your current location is included in its coverage. This can apply to regional, global, or cruise-and-land plans that also cover your home country.
Before installing, check your plan’s coverage and read the warnings displayed in the app. We recommend installing your eSIM right before your trip, while you still have access to a stable Wi-Fi connection, as an internet connection is required to complete the installation.
For more details, see When should I install my eSIM?.
When does my plan’s validity period begin?
Your validity period begins when your plan activates. Once it starts, the countdown continues even when you aren’t using data. Purchasing a plan, installing an eSIM, and activating a plan are different steps. Follow the instructions and warnings shown for your specific plan.
The app says installation may start my plan. What should I do?
If you want to save the plan for a future trip, stop before completing installation.
Continue when you’re ready for the plan’s validity period to begin.
Make sure you have a reliable internet connection available when you install your eSIM.
Will turning off my eSIM pause the countdown?
No. Turning off your eSIM or mobile data does not pause or extend an activated plan’s validity period.
My plan activated before I intended to use it. What should I do?
Check the plan’s status and expiry date in the GigSky app, then contact GigSky Support if you need help. Please provide:
Your GigSky account email.
The affected plan’s name.
Your current location and intended travel date.
A screenshot showing the plan’s status and expiry date.
Our team can review what happened and explain the available options.
Do not delete your eSIM as a way to stop activation or pause the countdown.
How can I prevent my eSIM from using data before my trip?
If you've already installed your GigSky eSIM, you can disable it in your phone's cellular or mobile data settings.
On iPhone:
Go to Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) → Select your GigSky eSIM → Turn off "Turn On This Line."
On Android:
Go to Settings → Connections or Network & Internet → SIMs → Select your GigSky eSIM → Turn it off.
You can enable your eSIM again when you're ready to use your data.
Please note that disabling your eSIM prevents data usage but does not pause an already activated plan's validity period.
What if I have more than one plan covering my current location?
If you have multiple GigSky plans covering your current location, you can choose which one to use.
Go to My Plans in the GigSky app and tap Enable on your preferred plan. This plan will become your active data plan, while the other plan will stop being used for data.
Please note: Switching plans does not pause or extend the validity period of a plan that has already activated. Any unused data on the other plan will remain available until that plan expires.
